YALA is among the oldest and best known National Parks in Sri Lanka. Spanning over 1297 km or 129,700 hectares, it is the largest accumulation of protected areas in the country. The diversity of its ecosystems ranges from moist to dry monsoon forests.

With herds of elephants, wild buffalo, sambhur and a myriad of birds, Udawalawe is the Sri Lankan national park that best rivals the savannah reserves of Africa.

Wilpattu derives it’s name from the tern ‘Willu’ which means natural rain water lakes. These lakes are the hubs of life in this thriving wilderness and it’s natural sand rimmed water
