Wilpattu derives it’s name from the tern ‘Willu’ which means natural rain water lakes. These lakes are the hubs of life in this thriving wilderness and it’s natural sand rimmed water basins attract a variety of wildlife making it a true oasis to satisfy any nature lovers’ fancy.

Located in the Northwest coast lowland dry zone of Sri Lanka. The park is located 30 km west Anuradhapura and located 26 km north of Puttalam (approximately 180 km north of Colombo). The park is 131, 693 hectares and ranges from 0 to 152 meters above sea level. Nearly sixty lakes (Willu) and tanks are found spread throughout Wilpattu. Wilpattu is the largest and one of the oldest National Parks in Sri Lanka. Wilpattu is among the top national parks and is world renowned for its Leopard (Panthera pardus kotiya) population.

This sprawling Resort is spread over a 15-acre expanse of supine, secure wilderness, overlooking a placid waterway it,  comprises a cadjan pavilions, encompassing the allure of the jungle, Governor’s Camp Wilpattu is situated a mere 3 Km from the Iluwamkulama Park Entrance.

Are you ready for a wild ride, into the wild?  Get up close to nature in open top Jeeps on rugged terrain, as you take in the famed Wilpattu National park.

Bird-watching or birding is the observation or study of birds with the naked eye or through binoculars; remember – National Parks are around the corner.

Have you considered yourself a good shot?  use the shooting range with your friends to see how good a shot you are.

Fresh Water Fishing & Swimming

We are surrounded by the Kiriibbanara Wewa. This fresh water lake is just great for swimming and/or fishing, as there are so many species of fish

(please bring your own fishing lines or rods, life jackets in three sizes are available on-site and must be worn mandatory).


Wilpattu is blessed with a large expanse of open grassy area that is ideal for any team sport. Be it Football, Cricket or Rugby you can enjoy the open space to the utmost.
